Hurricane Harvey: Helpful Resources

The destruction left by Hurricane Harvey will affect the lives of Texas Gulf Coast families for years to come. In many areas, including Houston, the flooding has been described as catastrophic.

As in past crises, our union is doing everything we can to respond.

On this page you will find resources to help you and your family deal with this disaster and how you can offer help to fellow union members, friends and family.

The IAM Disaster Relief Fund provides assistance in situations where IAM members and their families endure hardships due to natural disasters. The IAM reacts quickly to these needs before other sources of assistance are able.

The Texas Workers Relief Fund, operated by the Texas AFL-CIO, assists workers and their families in their time of need. Funds are provided to help stabilize situations when issues occur such as natural disasters.

 

FOR AFFECTED MACHINISTS UNION MEMBERS

We have compiled an extensive list of resources to help you recover. The IAM Harvey Help Manual includes sections on FEMA, returning home, legal services, unemployment benefits, replacing lost documents, health care and prescriptions, housing challenges, and more.

If you are an IAM member affected by Harvey, you can apply for assistance from the IAM Disaster Relief Fund here.

If you are a Texas union member affected by Harvey, you can apply for assistance from the Texas AFL-CIO Workers Relief Fund.

If you are an IAM member who participates in certain Union Plus programs, you may be eligible for financial assistance through the Union Plus Disaster Relief Grant program.

All IAM members can receive confidential help through the IAM Employee/Member Assistance Program. Our services include, but are not limited to, addictions, mental health, stress, depression and financial hardship.
